Our approach is grounded in the belief that there is no single way to experience this journey. We provide a non-judgemental space where women, men and families can explore their experiences without pressure to feel or respond in a particular way. We recognise the profound emotional, relational and identity shifts that can occur through trying to conceive, infertility, pregnancy, loss and becoming a parent, and how these experiences can intersect with our history, relationships, expectations and the demands of everyday life.
Our clinicians draw on a broad range of therapeutic approaches, including attachment and trauma-informed practice, psychodynamic psychotherapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), EMDR, systems theory and developmental psychology. For couples, we also draw on Gottman-informed approaches to support communication, connection and navigating the changes that parenthood can bring to a relationship. We don't believe in a one-size-fits-all approach; instead, we draw on our clinical training and experience to tailor therapy to each individual, couple or family.
Our commitment to safe, ethical and specialist care is reflected in our professional memberships and ongoing learning. Our team are members of their respective professional bodies, including the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA), Australian Psychological Society (APS), EMDR Association of Australia (EMDRAA) and Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW). These professional communities provide important ethical and practice frameworks that guide our work and our commitment to client safety.
We believe specialist practice requires ongoing curiosity and learning. Our work is informed by current perinatal mental health guidance, including the Centre of Perinatal Excellence (COPE), and we regularly engage in professional training and development with organisations including Perinatal Anxiety & Depression Australia (PANDA).
Above all, we want therapy at Nurture to feel like a place where you can exhale. A place where mothers, fathers and partners can arrive as they are, feel understood and have space to make sense of what they are experiencing without adding another expectation to an already full load.
Appointments are available in person or via telehealth, and babies are very welcome at appointments.
